Interesting.....

I got this message as a forward from one of my friend. This article was published by a freelance columnist in one of the dailies in Islamabad.

Of the same genetic sequence...yet....

The two Ambani brothers can buy 100 percent of every company listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) and would still be left with $30 billion to spare. The four richest Indians can buy up all goods and services produced over a year by 169 million Pakistanis and still be left with $60 billion to spare. The four richest Indians are now richer than the forty richest Chinese.

In November, Bombay Stock Exchange’s benchmark Sensex flirted with 20,000 points. As a consequence, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries became a $100 billion company (the entire KSE is capitalized at $65 billion). Mukesh owns 48 percent of Reliance.
In 2004, India became the 3rd most attractive foreign direct investment destination. Pakistan wasn’t even in the top 25 countries. In 2004, the United Nations, the representative body of 192 sovereign member states, had requested the Election Commission of India to assist the UN in the holding elections in Al Jumhuriyah al Iraqiyah and Dowlat-e Eslami-ye Afghanestan . Why the Election Commission of India and not the Election Commission of Pakistan? After all, Islamabad is closer to Kabul than is Delhi.

Imagine, 12 percent of all American scientists are of Indian origin; 38 percent of doctors in America are Indian; 36 percent of NASA scientists are Indians; 34 percent of Microsoft employees are Indians; and 28 percent of IBM employees are Indians .

For the record: Sabeer Bhatia created and founded Hotmail. Sun Microsystems was founded by Vinod Khosla. The Intel Pentium processor, that runs 90 percent of all computers, was fathered by Vinod Dham. Rajiv Gupta co-invented Hewlett Packard’s E-speak project. Four out of ten Silicon Valley start-ups are run by Indians.

For the record: Azim Premji, the richest Muslim entrepreneur on the face of the planet, was born in Bombay and now lives in Bangalore. India now has more than three dozen billionaires; Pakistan has none (not a single dollar billionaire)F

The other amazing aspect is the rapid pace at which India is creating wealth. In 2002, Dhirubhai Ambani, Mukesh and Anil Ambani’s father, left his two sons a fortune worth $2.8 billion. In 2007, their combined wealth stood at $94 billion. On 29 October 2007, as a result of the stock market rally and the appreciation of the Indian rupee, Mukesh became the richest person in the world, with net worth climbing to US$63.2 billion (Bill Gates, the richest American, stands at around $56 billion).

Indians and Pakistanis have the same Y-chromosome haplogroup. We have the same genetic sequence and the same genetic marker (namely: M124). We have the same DNA molecule, the same DNA sequence. Our culture, our traditions and our cuisine are all the same. We watch the same movies and sing the same songs .

What is it that Indians do and we don’t?... Indians elect their leaders.

Ganesha is here....Ganpati Bappa Morya....

Ganesa or Ganesh and also known as Ganapati, Vinayaka, and Pillaiyar, is one of the best-known and most widely worshipped deities in the Hindu pantheon arrived in million households in India yesterday.
What makes Lord Ganesha so adorable? I think it is Ganesha's elephant head that makes Him easy to identify. Lord Ganesha has been widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles (Vighnesha, Vighneshvara).
Like millions, even I had the opportunity to get the idol in my house.

I can associate Ganesh Chaturthi with Maharashtra but I feel Mumbai has been more synonymous and extravagant with this festival for past so many years. It seems like just yesterday we bid adieu to our most lovable and adorable “Elephant- Head” God.
Today, millions of devotees throng to get “bappa” (fondly called by devotees) to their house for 10 days until Anatha Chaturdashi.

Well, staying in a place like Dadar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dadar) predominated by Maharashtrians is definitely a place to be during the 10 – day long Ganesh festival. From Dadar onwards the count of Ganesh pandals goes endless. All I can say….its an Artistic Delight. The streets are lit and it is sheer colorful brilliance.

Well amongst so many Ganesha’s around Mumbai…there is only one that really stands tall, the very famous ‘Labaugcha Raja’. If you are in Mumbai for this festival, you must visit – Lalbaugcha Raja also known as the ‘Emperor of Lalbaug’ (Lalbaug is a place in Mumbai - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lalbaug)

Lalbaugcha Raja 2009

I’ve been paying my visit to ‘Labaugcha Raja’ for the past 4 years, hoping that I’m lucky this year too. Keeping in mind the faith and devotion of so many devotees, the place has earned a name for itself. Every year for 10 days the place is stacked with more than million devotees just to have a glimpse of the Emperor. Hope I’m 5th time lucky!!!

These days with the influx of media in our day to day lives, special reports were covered to showcase the fondness of Ganesha with our film fraternity. Do I really need to know this??? Media has been doing all sorts of things to get the details of the festival like reporting directly from the Ganesh Pandals, Catching hold of the TV stars who pay visit to these pandals.

Funniest thing that has been going rounds in these news channels is that they invite an astrologer and random callers ask about their future and how can they get over the bad phase of their life n stuff....and the impact this Ganesh Chaturthi will have on them, typical ‘to – do’ list during the festival. What a way to raise the TRP and rank themselves as a No.1 News Channel :)

One thing that really disappoints me is the setting up of pandals in the narrowest lanes of Mumbai. We know that this is the busiest city, with heap of human heads all over, variety of vehicles (4 wheelers, 3 wheelers, Heavy trucks, bikes) narrow lanes, bad roads and there you find a big Ganesh Pandal leading to traffic snarls.

That’s a challenge that the Government faces in a secular set up like ours. Enforcing, rather setting up norms without hurting the religious sentiments. Like this year, the State Government has set up a timeline for playing loud speakers in the Ganesh Pandals, the deadline being 10 pm. Maybe the Government should also come out with norms in restricting establishment of Ganesh Pandals all over the city.

I certainly understand the pains that our city police go through during these 10 - long day festivals keeping security and safety intact for us. But such norms if laid down by the Government will just ease life for all of us.

Praying - "Let Lord Ganesha bestow his blessings to one and all". Amen

Well, I plan to visit few pandals, will post the details and rate my Top 10 Ganesha. Watch this post for more…..
